THE DISHES CAN WAIT: A QUEST FOR CLARITY
It’s embarrassing to even admit it, but it’s true.
I don’t even know why I stopped reading it every day. I just
let things get in the way and I started making excuses.
Excuses like these…
I don’t need to read the Bible today.
It’s kind of hard to understand.
It takes a lot of time.
Where do I even start?
I can’t focus.
There are too many things to do.
I'll read tomorrow.
What a dangerous game I played with myself, and what a grievous
thing for my Savior.
About a month ago I started feeling desperate for God’s word
and started reading the Bible again.
I started feeling desperate because I had completely run out
of practical advice to help me through tough situations and I had some big prayers that weren't getting answered through self-help books.
Additionally, the internet memes started becoming super cliche and the inspiring podcasts started to become uninspiring.
Though all that stuff had worked for awhile, I wanted something with more meat, something that kept me fuller longer.
I desired complete and unarguable truth.
I started with the book of Proverbs – you can read about
that here.
It didn’t take long for me to realize that my spiritual tank
was on empty and if I wanted peace, understanding, and unshakeable faith then I
had to seek God through His word (because apparently I had forgotten whom I
serve).
This past month, I have been reminded of God's power, mercy, graciousness, everlasting love, and all of the goodness that He is.
Because He is good and under no circumstances does he delight in the suffering of others.
And while this world doesn't make sense, and all the things in it leave us unfulfilled and broken; I have experienced first-hand that all those broken pieces work together for His good.
He is a God of second chances.
He is a God who does not force us to seek Him, to worship Him, or to accept the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. But, He desires it and He makes all of those things possible and quite simple - it's we who complicate things.
I encourage you to spend some time in God's Word today. To wrestle with those seeds of darkness in your heart and to let the light in.
I encourage you to spend some time in God's Word today. To wrestle with those seeds of darkness in your heart and to let the light in.
Because God forgives, and forgives, and forgives; and He restores, and restores, and restores.
Romans 10:9-10 KJV
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
